The Inside Out Team

Jigsaw’s Inside Out service provides support to children and families in West Yorkshire who have a parent/carer in prison.

Our support is available to:

  • children and young people, aged between 5 and 18, living in West Yorkshire, who have a parent in prison.
  • parents/carers living in West Yorkshire, who have dependent children aged 0-18 years old and have a partner/co-parent in custody.

Our specialist family workers offer support tailored to each child, young person or parent’s needs. We provide:

  • Emotional support – someone to listen and understand what you’re going through.
  • Information and guidance – help understanding about the justice system.
  • A safe space to talk – for children and parents/carers to share their feelings and experiences.
  • Practical support – advice and help to manage the challenges that can come when a family member is in prison.

Support for Professionals

Bradford Children and Families Outreach Worker

As part of the Inside Out team, our Outreach Worker works exclusively in Bradford, providing peer support to children, parents and carers who have a loved one in prison. Through groups, activities and informal support, families can connect with others who understand their experiences, helping to reduce isolation and build confidence.
They will also hold a small caseload, providing more targeted 1:1 support to families who need additional help. This may include emotional support, practical guidance, advocacy and connecting families with other services.
Our aim is to make sure families affected by imprisonment feel supported, connected and listened to, with the right help available at the right time.
